Course Information
Next Intake : 2017 (TBC)
Syllabus : IFA accredited syllabus (external exam)
Tuition hours : Total 680 hours (250 hours of class contact & 430 hours of home self study)
Course period : 9 months to 1 Year
Course offer : Full time /Part Time Class  (check out the latest intake schedule with us)
Examination : Every November of the year (examination held only once a year)
Qualification : Professional Diploma of Holistic Aromatherapy
Pre-requisite : Minimum SPM (or equivalent or high qualification)
Language : Available in English and Chinese version for tutor lessons and examination papers (both traditional and simplified Chinese)

Course Content

Part A - Anatomy & Physiology

Anatomy and Physiology is the essential module to learn. A study of the human body structure, the inter-relationships of the body systems' functions, the body health and the causes of diseases and disorders of the human body system. The module will cover:-
The A&P
  • Introduction to Human Body
  • Body Tissues
  • The Integumentary System
  • The Skeletal System
  • The Muscular System
  • The Nervous System
  • The Endocrine System
  • The Cardiovascular System
  • The Lymphatic System
  • The Immune System
  • The Respiratory System
  • The Digestive System
  • The Urinary System
  • The Reproductive System
The Pathology
  1. To understand the diseases and the disorders of the body systems. To identify the body systems' functions. Do research on the related case; To analyse research findings. To describe and explain the relationships between the body systems (writing and presentation)
    Self Study and Assignment
    The course gives plenty of practice and homework including: -
  • Written assignments and thesis
  • Home work exercises
  • Case studies, journal and essential oils portfolio
  • Group study and discussion
  • Aromatherapy treatment home practice

 

Part B - Aromatherapy

In the module of Aromatherapy, it is classified into 2 parts which includes:-
1. The Aromatherapy theory – to provide knowledge of the essential oils and aromatherapy
  • The history of aromatherapy development
  • The Science of Aromatherapy (e.g: The history of essential oils, training on the sense of smell, botanical names of plant origins, the cultivation and the method of extraction of essential oils, the chemistry of aromatherapeutic oils, the potential hazards and toxicity of essential oils, and the therapeutic properties of the aromatherapeutic oils)
  • The aromatherapeutic remedies and applications (e.g: the carrier oils, the 45 essential oil profiles, benefits and contraindications of aromatherapy , and the art of blending, dosage and methods of application for aromatherapy treatment)
2. The Aromatherapy practice – to provide professional and safety practice
  • The knowledge and work on how to prepare the aromatherapy work area and create a comfortable and appropriate environment for aromatherapy; the professionalism ethics in practice; how to handle different clients case.
  • Professional consultation and assessment (e.g: know how to assess client; communicate professionally with client; record, evaluate and identify clients' medical case and history; decide and design appropriate aromatherapy treatment for client; contraindication for treatment)
  • The treatment plan (e.g: know the treatment objective, adapt appropriate treatment method for client, evaluate treatment effectiveness, and caring for client’s comfort level during treatment)
  • After home care advice to client
  • Record keeping and client’s agreement on acceptance of treatment

 

Part C - Body Massage

This module will train practical skill of body massage to perform professional and effective massage therapy with the application of blended aromatherapy massage oils that suits the client. However, massage therapy may not be appropriate to apply on some individuals or in cases that are not necessary.
This module will also provide the theoretical knowledge of massage therapy (e.g: background of massage therapy, guide on massage and research, know the benefits and contraindications of massage, the classification of massage movement, and the use of suitable essential oils blend in appropriate vegetable carrier base for aromatherapy massage)

 

Part D - Others

This course will cover other units included business studies, aromatherapy research, and reflective practice.
Assessment Method
IFA assessment methods: Written thesis, research and business projects, clinical case studies with written assignment, reflective practice diary journal, aromatherapy portfolio, IFA theory and practical examination.
  • Student examination fees to be paid 4 months before the examination.
  • Exam fees must be paid in sterling pounds only
  • Students can select their preferred language (English/Chinese) for their exam paper.
  • Students can write, read and discuss in Chinese for their study, preparation of their project and assignment, and case study.
